Vision of NEP-2020 for Higher Education

We feel the addition of something new when we feel the old does not work or when we think the old one is not suitable for the present situation or when we observe that it is not able to fulfil my present desires. That means we bring new things when we face some problems with the old one and we want the development of our living standard and when we want to fulfil some specific or universal objectives… which is not being possible with the old. So the process of changes or the modification is for achieving some goals which are urgently needed. That means it is kind of tools or means that we are adopting to fulfil our aims and objectives of the present and the future.
National Education Policy -2020 why it was needed, what is the reason, what made it feel necessary, if we look into the vision of NEP 2020 we will get the answer of all these. What is the vision of this policy? It is written clearly that ‘This National Education Policy envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India that is Bharat…’ that means building India’s education policy based on Indian customs, rites, rituals and thought. In other words to established education based on Bhartiya Sanskriti or the principles of Indianness. Create the tattva (theory) and describe the theory by Indian approach; to look the world by Indian perspectives. Furthermore, ‘making India a global knowledge superpower’ is also the vision of this policy. And it will be achieved through vibrant knowledge about society, by providing high-quality education to all and bringing equality in education. To build a learner as ‘global citizen’ is also the vision of this policy and this will be possible if we impart the education which is deep-rooted pride in being Indian, not only in thought but by spirit and action. Without knowing thyself, knowing others is impossible. In the same way, knowing global is impossible without knowing local. Thus we first have to know our (Indian) thought process, our theory, our fundamental duties, our values, our responsibilities in order to better understanding of global issues. So the framework of curriculum and the style of teaching should be such that the learners know themselves, their culture, their cultural ability, and their history and can adapt to this changing world.
Vision on Higher Education
The main objective of bringing this policy is to accelerate the field of education. Producing Quality higher education by value-based education. What is the meaning of value-based education? It is written as ‘Value-based education will include the development of humanistic, ethical, constitutional and universal human values of truth, righteous conduct, peace, love, non-violence, scientific temper, citizenship values and also life-skill, a lesson in service and participation in community programs will be considered as an integral part of holistic education.’ This is clear that the policy gives important on community engagement and value-based education. Through the accomplishment of knowledge and by engagement with knowledge enlightened the young aspirants. The motto is that giving such kinds of knowledge to the learners so that they can skillfully contribute to society and help the nation in making economic independence.
Encourage creativity, multidisciplinary education and innovation in the field of education so that the learners can contribute to the national economy. Giving opportunity for internship with local industry, business, arts and craft after the completion of the program so that they can learn the practical side of their learning and acquiring the skills of employability. The policy focuses on Academic-Industry linkage, interdisciplinary research for improving productive research culture. And set up interesting and relevant curriculum, scientific assessment process, capacity development through physical fitness, mental well-being, sound ethical grounding, developing Psycho-social personality etc. for high quality learning. Pedagogy will be based on debate, communication; research, innovation; discussion and opportunities for cross and inter disciplinary study.
Bringing back the Indian rich tradition into education is the big challenge that the NEP- 2020 has accepted. India has diverse culture; the goal of this policy is to provide world-class education by valuing this diversity. Promoting Knowledge of many arts/ liberal arts, vocational education, soft skills, lok vidya which was Indian origin is also the objective of this policy. We should bring Indian arts and culture in Indian education that is the historical moral responsibility of every Indian. Introduce moral and social awareness and social engagement in the curriculum so that learners can get the opportunities to know the society more closely and practically.
The policy encourages field visit for practical learning, student/faculty exchange for better understanding the situation. Every higher education institution can have Autonomy is another purpose of this policy. This policy envisage to maintaining equity and inclusion of all in education. For supporting students all the institution should prepared the academic plan keeping in mind the demand of students. Private higher education institutions are also encourage to extent the support to merit students who are belonging to ST/SC and other financially and socially back warded classes. All higher education institution is encouraged to setting up teacher education centre. The department of Education of the HEI should run B. Ed. program in collaboration with Psychology, Philosophy, Language, Arts, and Music …
This policy encourage online courses so that learners can easily learn from anywhere at any time and enrich themselves. It also encourages the technology based education… technology platforms such as Swayam/Diksha for students as well as for teachers. Thus the policy gives possibilities for lifelong learning.
The NEP-2020 believed that teachers are the main actors of education, because without them the policy cannot achieved its goal. That is why this policy trying to ensure each faculty members happy, enthusiastic, engaged and motivated towards advancing his her students and his institution. Teachers are encouraged for Innovative teaching and creative work. Teacher must be grounded in Indian values, language, ethos, culture including tribal tradition. Teachers will be trained in leadership training and they will be encouraged to acting as Institutional leader for success and development of the institution. The teachers should be appointed by the institution and not transferable so that they can stay connected to their institution and community.
Finally, it must be said that this policy has been brought to reorganize the education system, to make education system timely, to make education attractive and practical and last but most important thing is that to provide world class education by making the education system based on Indian ethos. Therefore the vision of this policy will be achieved through the combined efforts of individuals at all levels who are directly or indirectly involved in education.
