ABOUT THE COMPETITION:

With an objective to enhance the writing talents of young budding philosophers, Philosophy Today come up with the 1st National Essay Writing Competition 2020.

THEME:

“Concept of ‘ISOLATION/ Kaivalya (कैवल्य) in Indian Thought”

CONCEPT NOTE: 

‘Isolation’ is not a novel concept for Indian philosophical and religious traditions. Conversations about ‘solitude’, ‘detachment’ or ‘separation’ was a central theme for liberation. It is also known as ‘Kaivalya (कैवल्य)‘ in various religious systems. According to Yogasutra, it is the separation of purusha from prakriti which provides liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Even in Buddhist and Jaina thoughts isolation and detachment is the central pillar to attain Moksha. Current state of isolation emerged due to Covid-19 pandemic gave us time and opportunity to re-think and reflect on the whole purpose of Isolation and detachment in the philosophical paradigm.  The present essay competition is focused upon this theme and invite scholarly written articles resonating to the contemporary scenario.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

The competition is open for all students

INSTRUCTIONS:

Only original articles must be submitted. 

Plagiarism would lead to disqualification.

The essay should be written in English or Hindi

FORMATTING GUIDELINES:

Submissions should be made in .doc or .docx (MS Word) format only 

Word Limit- Maximum 2000 words (including footnotes)

Accompanied by an abstract (150 words)

All references should be made as footnotes and in APA format
